Daemon Impact: Chapter 5

Daemon Impact Chapter 5 “Mom, what do you do on the Osiris?” Being the son of two Salvagers, the young boy had all but decided to follow in their footsteps. Wanting to learn more, he approached his mother with this question one day. “I’m a member of the Osiris’ Resource Unit.” The woman answered her child’s curiosity with a smile. In response to her answer, the boy tilted his head. “Resource Unit? What is that? Is it different from what dad does?” “The Resource Unit does a lot of things. We make sure there’s enough stuff for everyone to do their jobs, we find all kinds of things that can’t be found in the city, and we take apart all the machines when we wake people up.” There was pride in the woman’s response. “But there is one duty our unit has that is more important than anything else.” “What is it? What is it?” The boy asked excitedly. “Do you know what “azurilium is?” When the boy shook his head, she pointed up to the lights in the ceiling. “Azurilium is what powers everythin...

A Deadly Dream

...it happened again tonight. For the the third night since moving into her late grandfather's manor, she woke up feeling extremely nauseous. She clutched her stomach and began gasping, as if something was stealing her breath away. Perhaps this place was haunted? All the servants said as much as they quit their jobs. She had planned to move her family here after inheriting the place, but at this rate she would have to cancel those plans. She could always sell the place, but her grandfather had built up his wealth over his lifetime. Selling the manor would be an insult to what he had accomplished. No, she'd have to do something to stop the strange illness. When the nausea had passed, she picked up her cellphone and made a call.  "...hello Mary? Sorry to bother you so late at night. Could you tell me more about that place you were talking about?" ************************************* "This seems to be the place." She looked up at the building in front of her...

Daemon Impact: Chapter 4

Chapter 4  Making their way through the winding halls of the Osiris again, the two of them had arrived at their destination. The cafeteria was large enough to accommodate a large number of people while they ate their meals.  After a short wait in line, they were greeted by a cafeteria worker behind the counter.  “Commander Sakai! Hungry again?”   “No, I don’t need to eat again. She, on the other hand, hasn’t eaten anything in a few days.”   “Oh dear! We can’t have that! Just wait right there sweetie, I’ll have something to fill you right up!” The worker grabbed a tray and loaded it with an omelet  and some potatoes. Then filling up a cup with orange juice, they handed the tray to her. Thanking the worker, the two grabbed some utensils and found an empty table to sit at.  “Eggs and potatoes have become staples nowadays. They’re easy to produce and have most of the nutritional value we need.” As Anri explained this to her, she took a bite...

Daemon Impact: Chapter 3

Chapter 3 (Revised)   "...it is regrettable we must push this task on to one so young, but we have no choice." The voice of an elderly man reached her ears. It was a voice that seemed tantalizingly familiar to her, but she could not recall from where. Despite the man standing directly in front of her, she could not recall his facial features. "Take this. It has the power to change this world's fate. I trust you'll be able to use it when the time is right." She lowered her head as the man placed a necklace around her neck. Attached to this necklace was a cloudy white stone. With the stone hanging from her neck, she could feel the immense power that lay dormant inside.   "We're counting on you...Elda." ******************************************* A metal ceiling with lights shining down greeted her waking eyes. She found herself lying on a small bed in some small metal room. As she came out of her dream, she had the feeling the entire room was mov...
